D fter the last post on this blog, it has happened that someone has asked how to assess the actual skills of an instructor.
In this regard I would dare any response, but would still have been my personal reflection that leaves the time that it finds.
judge a person is always difficult and uncomfortable and not very fair, because in the end you should always ask "who am I to judge?".
Yet a guy who is at the beginning of his career, has every right to know which hands are relying.
On this, I can only trust the words of my teacher, written these days about just this topic.
"Many times, too many in my view, I find myself in front of fans who are interested in gym class, you may after seeing some match my or my kids, asking opinions on other instructors and schools.
Given that I do not feel no one to give "opinions" on others, what I do is usually limited to providing the parameters of evaluation, useful to the person to better understand the world is going to face so if they can see and assess whether or not realized their expectations. What can you expect from a course, a school, a teacher and what he can / wants to invest in the discipline who is about to do:
1) Evaluate the numbers always the teacher and the school in question. As he fought, he won what, where he fought, trained athletes, whether in the gym fighting with students, etc.. No one can teach that which has not tried personally (and something you tried at first you're sure it works, otherwise the trim or changes).
2) Assess whether you are in front of a fan with knowledge (capable and honest, perhaps with some limits of the structure of training in terms of spaces and times) , a passionate without knowledge (probably honest but very capable), a trader with knowledge (Maybe that, but only interested in your money), a merchant with no knowledge (the worst) and a professional (usually the best place to go. Capable, honest and in economic terms with an appropriate training structure to allow a wide availability of space / time, to meet the needs of everyone, from the beloved agonists most reliable).
3) Assess the importance that the school training of the individual through the martial arts / combat sports. Learning to fight is to know and improve ourselves through comparison. It goes without saying that a real fighter will be a humble person who sees the competition as a means to gain knowledge more quickly and to build itself day by day. It will teach you first of all respect for opponents and not backing down from any of the difficulties. We teach that the wisest decision is to be humble, because there will always be someone better than you. Will teach you to never give up, not to retreat in the face to anyone, to learn from the victories and defeats. It will teach you through the struggle to be human. "
